Tibetan Sand Mandala - Destruction Ceremony & Bodhi Tree Reopening

July 24th, 1:00 PM. - Free event for all.

(Corner of 6th and Church - second floor)

214 6th Street, Honesdale PA 18431

Starting in late fall of 2020, we began an amazing experiment following the traditions of Tibetan Buddhist and thier work with Sand Mandala creation. Anyone who was interested, was invited to come to the Bodhi Tree. We worked four at a a time using a “Chakpur” (traditional metal funnel and chopstick) to carefully lay sand down, grain by grian - using only vibration and gravity.

Following well over 30 hours of work (X's four people at a time) we planned the destruction ceremony just as COVID hit Wayne County. Unfortunately, We had to cancel the very day the ceremony was scheduled. So this beautiful, prayerful work and the studio itself began a long hibernation, dreaming of sharing its compassion when the time was right.

This time is now!

The original Tibetan process is that this work becomes a temporary physical manifestation of a prayer to be offered to the universe. Our non-denominational experiment was to simply see if working with mindfulness and the feeling of compassion changed the way we experienced the artwork. It has undoubtedly created a powerful and meaningful experience for participants and viewers. It is a celebration of impermanence, and the importance of caring for others.

We are inviting you to be part of the destruction ceremony (and its release of compassion and kindness) into the world. We will sweep up the sand and we all will collectively take it to the 6th street foot bridge to release the kind wishes to all.

Every year we have offered this event it has been an amazing experience! We hope that you will join us.

Please share this invitation to anyone who might enjoy this.
